Having been patiently observing the happenings on the political scene in our motherland Nigeria since November 23, 2009, when President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua was secretly taken to Saudi Arabia for medical treatment and brought back the same way on February 24, 2010, the entire members of Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation, Germany hereby wish to plead with those in the position to peacefully and constitutionally resolve the stalemate thereby created.

As much as we wish the president a very speedy recovery, we plead with all stakeholders to let the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria be the bedrock, on which all their decisions made and actions taken at this critical time of history of our common project Nigeria stand. In other words, we demand, that the ideals of democracy which manifest themselves in transparency and accountability be respected in this process of decision making.

Thus, in light of recent development in the country, we expect the Armed Forces to unequivocally promote and protect the constitution in line with the oath of office they have taken to serve our dear motherland conscientiously and patriotically. It is expected of them to respect the provisions of the constitution, and defend our young and growing democracy in an impartial manner, in the interest of our children and children?s children.

The current state of affairs in our county Nigeria is not a product of partisan politics but  fundamentally constitutional in nature. Hence we hereby call on all organs of the democratic being of Nigeria to kindly use the democratic apparatus at their disposal to save the situation in no time.

While wishing President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua a speedy recovery, Nigerians at home and in Diaspora no longer want to be kept in suspense. They long to see their president. We believe, that it is our constitutional right to see him.

The Federal Republic of Nigeria is a great nation. Let us stop reducing her and her great children to objects of ridicule before the community of nations.

Signed on behalf of
Executive Council by
Dr. P. O. Agwi
President
Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation - Germany (NIDO-Germany e.V.)

Duty Call
The initiation of NIDO by President Olusegun Obasanjo is in my view, one of the best things ever done by the Nigerian leaders. It is also a v very wise way of distributing either the blame for failure or commendation for success. It is truly an act of Government of the People by the People and for the People. Our dear president has said, “Please, come home and do what ever you can to make Nigeria worth a home”. This is not a voice of a self-centered man neither is it a voice of one who ignores wisdom, knowledge and expertise. It is rather a voice of one who wants the best for his country-our country.

This is a voice of one who wants the best for his country-our country.

For the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to have called on Nigerians in Diaspora to extend their helping hands to the development of Nigeria, he must have seen something that they have which would be gainful to Nigeria if heartily released. For any Nigerian Academician or Professional in Diaspora to have heard this call and fail to react wouldn’t be in our best interest. A popular primary school poem in Nigeria goes thus: “Johmbule my son, I sent you to school, to learn how to spell your name”. Any Nigerian academician or professional in Diaspora I believe has gone to acquire wider knowledge. For such a person to ignore a call for him/her to put his/her knowledge into practice for his/her father land would be like Johmbule asking his father to help him spell his name after his father has sent him to school to learn just that.
