Omolara Duke: Mrs.

Dear All,

My name is Mrs. Omolara Duke a Principal Economist with the Research Department, Central Bank of Nigeria. One of may schedules is research on remittances. It was my delight to see World Bank pdf report on the $10,000 remitance inflow into Nigeria on your page. Remittances has became an important inflow into Nigeria and there is need for more research on the inflow. This is why am contacting your organisation. There is a great need for insights into personal remittances that is person to persons, collective remittances by Home Town associations and the use of such remittances for infrastructural development in their communities in the home country. Other areas for future research include financial products for the diaspora, migration issues, etc. You may kindly wish to let me know how we can establish a formal line of communiation for future collaboration.

My offiical email address is ooduke@cenbank.org

Yours faithfully,

Duke O.O.

Wiederhold, Thomas: Looking for a native speaker of Hausa, P...

Dear people of the "Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation e.V. Germany",I'm currently working in a research project in the Linguistics Departement at Potsdam University. We are gathering data from languages from all around the world and compare them regarding whether they allow a specific structure and if so to what extent. Right now we are looking for native speakers of a couple of languages spoken in Nigeria, that is why I am contacting you.More specifically we are looking for speakers who learned Hausa, Pa'a or Gude as their first language. Do you have any native speakers of these languages among your members or do you know any speakers in the Berlin area? The speaker does not need to have any background in linguistics or special knowledge about the grammar of his language. What is important to us, is that one of the above languages is his first language and that he can spare some time.We will of course also pay a honorarium for any help (depending on the amount of work between 50,- and 150,- Euro.) We are mainly working with a questionnaire and me or one of our students would meet the informant and elicit a series of sentences of the speakers native tongue. A certain sentence would be given in English, this would have to be translated to e.g. Hausa and then we would try out several variations of word order in this language.Depending on the results of these elicitations we might also be interested in doing some audio recordings of these sentences, this would take place in Potsdam University and an extra recompensation would be payed. We would be very grateful if you could establish a contact to a speaker of any of those languages or suggest some other associations of Nigerians in Berlin we might contact for our purpose. Thanks a lot for your help. All the bestThomas Wiederhold-- Thomas WiederholdDFG-Project FA 255/5 (=Morphosyntax and Phonology of split NPs and PPs)Linguistics DepartmentPotsdam University

Mr Chairman, Distinguished Guests, Ladies and gentlemen.

We thank you for this opportunity given to NIDO to address you on “Ways NIDO can contribute to the consolidation of democracy in Nigeria” to mark the celebration of African Democracy Day.

We believe that this day is a time to pause and reflect on all our activities in general, reflecting on where we are coming from, where we are today and where we are going tomorrow. It’s a day to start making preparations for a better and democratic world for us all.

As we celebrate democracy day and before I go on to elaborate on ways NIDO can contribute to the consolidation of democracy in Nigeria, it will be proper to understand the meaning of consolidation of democracy.
